SCOPE & FUNCTIONS: Over the years, O&M function of rural based schemes kept on shifting from one agency to another and finally SLGO 2001 stipulated O&M of all schemes to respective TMA. Presently urban based schemes are operated and maintained by concerned Local Councils whereas completed Rural W/S and Drainage Schemes are being looked-after by PHED. PHED had been a part of Local Government Department and was given an independent status, having its own Minister & a Secretariat in 2008; but in 2013, the department was again merged in Local Government Department. As of recent, PHED and RDD have been separated from Local Govt. under a separate Ministry. |
